How to send batteries?

It is prohibited to send lithium batteries in the postal consignments. Here you’ll find a list of broadly used lithium batteries.

There are no restrictions applied to the postal consignment of batteries of another type, like for example alkaline batteries and zinc-oxide batteries, however, they need to be sent in separate packaging.

Lithium ion batteries (Li-ion)


rechargeable batteries which, for example, are used in the following products:
  • pocket computers
  • cell phones
  • MP3 players
  • portable DVD players
  • GPS devices
  • recording cameras
  • photo cameras
  • battery-operated tools and etc.
 

Lithium metal batteries


Non-rechargeable (disposable) batteries, which, for example, are used in small portable devices:
  • watches
  • thermometers
  • calculators
  • remote control panels (for cars/keys)
  • back-up batteries for electronic devices and etc
 

The restriction for the postal consignment of batteries only applies for lithium batteries. You can easily recognise a lithium battery from the marking on the battery. Lithium batteries and their packaging are marked are marked with the abbreviation of CR, Li or the type of the battery is written out in words.

 

Lithium batteries are considered to be hazardous goods, as under certain circumstances they may overheat and ignite.
