What should I do if I already paid value added tax (VAT) when making the purchase (IOSS shipment)?

If you paid value added tax (VAT) when purchasing goods from an online store, the seller should add a valid IOSS number to the electronic data of the shipment. The IOSS number indicates the customs authorities of the destination country that VAT has already been paid at the time of purchase.

Please note that having a valid IOSS number does not necessarily mean that no additional charges apply. Customs duty or service fees may still need to be collected where applicable. From 1 July 2026, a customs duty of €3 may also apply, even for shipments with a valid IOSS number.

If the sender has not added a valid IOSS number to the preliminary electronic data, Omniva will send you a notification that the shipment needs to be declared. If you have already paid VAT at the time of purchase, please contact the sender of the goods or the online store and request for the correct IOSS number. Once you have the IOSS number, email it to [email protected] together with the invoice of the goods.
