Omniva Warns About Fraud on Online Classifieds Platforms

During the holiday period, people actively order new products online and also buy or sell second-hand items on classifieds platforms. Logistics and parcel delivery company Omniva warns that scammers are using this situation to steal money.

“Scammers pretend to be buyers and tell sellers that they will arrange an Omniva courier to collect the item directly from the seller’s home. Soon after, the seller receives a link asking them to log in to their bank account, supposedly to receive payment for the item. In reality, the link is fake and is used to steal money,” says Gabrielė Požerskė, Communications Manager in Lithuania.

According to Omniva, these links lead to fake websites that look very similar to the company’s official website.

“The same logo, colours, and layout are used, so it is easy to be confused, especially when in a hurry. People should remember that Omniva does not send links asking for payments or personal information. Omniva services can only be ordered through the Omniva self-service platform for private or business customers, the mobile app, or directly on the website where the goods are purchased,” explains Požerskė.

If someone clicks on a suspicious link, enters personal details, or makes a payment, they should act immediately.

“Depending on the situation, it is important to contact your bank as soon as possible, change your passwords, and inform the police. A quick response increases the chance of avoiding financial loss or misuse of personal data,” says the Omniva representative.

If there is any doubt about whether the information is real or part of a scam, Požerskė encourages people to contact Omniva’s customer service centre.
